Hussain Durrani

Research Coordinator

Hussain Durrani is a PhD scholar in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary, specializing in critical narrative inquiry and transformative learning. His dissertation, Why is he sending his daughter to school? Fathers as Allies for the Promotion of Girls’ Education in Bahawalpur, Punjab, Pakistan, aims to examine the transformative stories of fathers who challenge socio-cultural and religious barriers to support their daughters’ education, contributing to gender justice through decolonial methodologies.

Alongside his doctoral research, Hussain serves as Director of Talent and Organisational Development at the Grassy Narrows Mercury Care Home (GNMCH), leading initiatives to build Indigenous workforce capacity and deliver culturally grounded, community-led healthcare. His work spans community engagement, strategic planning, policy design, and multi-stakeholder collaboration, with a track record of securing funding, developing training pathways, and implementing equitable resource strategies.

An experienced educator and facilitator, Hussain has taught courses on reconciliation, Indigenous learning outcomes, and organizational development at Lakehead University and Oshki-Pimache-O-Win: The Wenjack Education Institute.

Fluent in English, Urdu, and Punjabi, Hussain blends academic rigor with community impact, creating bridges between research, policy, and lived experience. His professional journey reflects a sustained commitment to decolonial approaches, culturally responsive education, and community-driven change across Indigenous and global contexts.
