Sarah Abouali is a dedicated researcher, educator, and community leader passionate about advancing gender justice and working with diverse Muslim communities across Canada and globally. As a Research Coordinator for the Muslim Masculinities Global Study, Sarah explores the motivations of Muslim men in Afghanistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Qatar, and Turkey who are engaged in Violence Against Women (VAW) prevention and gender justice advocacy. Through interviews and digital storytelling, her work sheds light on the factors that inspire Muslim men to challenge societal norms and lead in violence prevention. By informing policies and community initiatives, Sarah contributes to a growing global dialogue that integrates faith-based perspectives into gender equity efforts.
In addition to her work on gender justice, Sarah is actively involved in the Canadian Muslim Youth (CMY) Project, which investigates identity formation and mental health among Muslim youth in the context of Islamophobia. She has co-authored articles, developed community reports with actionable policy recommendations, and presented findings at conferences and workshops. Her work with Canadian Muslim youth emphasizes the importance of amplifying their voices and addressing systemic barriers to belonging.
Beyond research, Sarah is a passionate youth leader in Calgary, creating programs that empower young Muslims to thrive while fostering a strong sense of identity and community. Her multifaceted work embodies a commitment to building equitable, compassionate, and advancing societies.
